HONORABLE EXECUTIVE MEMBERS OF TAGG
MEMBERS OF THE PRESS
DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS
LADIES & GENTLEMEN
Good Morning
I bring warm greetings from the Management and Staff of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to you as the Traders Advocacy Group Ghana marks its Awareness Educational Walk in Accra.
The FDA fully identifies with your noble efforts, embarking on this Educational Walk to create awareness aimed at curtailing the spread of COVID-19.
Indeed, today’s awareness campaign in Accra’s Central Market could not have come at a better time as the nation battles the recent surge in COVID- 19.
The FDA commends you for your consistency over the years in mobilizing the informal sector to assist Government to generate data that will boost Ghana’s investment drive through effective stakeholder engagements.
To support business and encourage foreign direct investments, the FDA has embarked on several initiatives such as the Progressive Licensing Scheme (PLS). This is designed to help small scale enterprises and has led to the establishment of a unique partnership with the Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA), formally National Board for Small Scale Industry (NBSSI) and Ghana Standards Authority with the sole aim of accelerating registration processes and enlisting Small Scale Enterprises as far as compliance to the law is concerned.
Since the inception of the PLS, the FDA has licensed 229 small scale businesses and registered over 409 products in less than one (1) year.
To protect public health and safety-which is at the core of mandate- the FDA wishes to bring to your attention, its zero-tolerance policy on unregistered products. Effective yesterday, 1st February 2021 the FDA expects all regulated products to be registered prior to importation.
TAGG members are clearly key to the success of this policy and therefore we hope for maximum cooperation.
The FDA in solidarity, commits to support all such efforts and contribute to the success of your over-all agenda.
Finally let us all continue to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols.
Wear your face mask properly to protect yourself and others
Wash your hands or use FDA approved sanitizers
Maintain appropriate social distances
Thank you for your attention. Stay Safe and God bless us all
